Fraises au sucre, strawberries with sugar, and a splash of lemon is an easy and elegant way to serve your summer strawberries. It’s also a great option when the strawberries aren’t as sweet as they should be. You can also add a splash of red wine for fraises au vin, another simple yet sophisticated dessert. Both can be made quickly and are perfect for family dinners or entertaining.

Ingredients

Fresh strawberries

Organic sugar

Lemon juice

Optional: red wine

Instructions

Wash and slice the strawberries.

Place them in a bowl and sprinkle with organic sugar — just a bit to add a little extra sweetness.

Add freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste.

Optional - Add red wine. Use any dry wine that you would enjoy drinking. A Côtes du Rhône is a nice complement. I use about a cup of wine for a quart of berries, but you can add more or less as you like.

Serve the berries immediately for a quick dessert for family dinner, or let them marinate for an hour in the fridge, stirring a few times to marinate the berries completely.

Enjoy the strawberries and drink the juice at the end.
