Easy to prepare, puff pastry bites filled with your favorite ingredients are lovely for entertaining when you are serving an apéritif dinner. You can also keep them in the freezer so they are ready to warm for a quick dinner or kids’ school lunch. The possibilities of add-in ingredients are endless. Here’s how to prepare them and some ideas to get you started.
Puff pastry — Dafour brand is excellent, and the Trader Joe's version is also good.
Olive oil
Your favorite ingredients, such as:
Pepperoni
Salami
Ham or prosciutto
Olives
Mozzarella
Provolone
Scamorza
Roasted peppers
Parmesean, pecorino Romano, Gruyère, Comté
I love filling them with Caponata
Thaw the puff pastry according to the package directions.
Place the puff pastry on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Slice the puff pastry in half and then in sections about 2 inches wide
Place the ingredients on the puff party.
Fold the edges so they meet and wrap around the ingredients.
Flip the puff pastry bites over so the folded side is down.
Brush the top of each one with olive oil.
Sprinkle with cheese — parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese.
Chill about 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400° F.
Bake until golden brown and puffed, about 20 to 25 minutes.
