I came up with this idea while preparing a Friday night family apĂ©ritif. I wanted to add something fresh and light. I had strawberries from the farmers' market and basil over the years, and I thought, "Why not put them together?" We all loved it!Â
Combining light and heavier appetizers and a small quantity of each creates the perfect offering. The strawberries and basil balanced the olive tapenade, cheese straws, and slices of dried sausage — just a few bites for everyone to enjoy. I always serve just a nibble for everyone so we don't fill up, and a small appetizer is less work, expense, and calories.Â
