Adding the right salt to your plate can do more than just boost flavor — it can support your health too. I like to use mostly Celtic salt, because it’s unprocessed and rich in essential minerals. (You can read more about its benefits here.)
At home, I keep both coarse and fine-grained salt on hand. Fine salt is perfect for cooking or adding a delicate finishing touch, since it dissolves quickly. Coarse salt, on the other hand, offers texture and a satisfying crunch ... but I noticed I wasn’t using it as often — so I added a salt grinder to our table.
It’s been a delightful addition.
Taking a moment to grind salt slows down the pace of eating and creates a small but valuable pause before the meal begins. And kids love it! I mixed in some herbes de Provence (about 60–70% herbs to 30–40% Celtic salt), and that’s become my secret trick for getting my son to eat more vegetables — and many other foods too.
I wish I could tell you where to find a beautiful hand-painted salt grinder like these — my mother-in-law gave them to me. But try Etsy, a craft market, or a home goods store if you’d like to add this meaningful and practical touch to your table.
